🎐 XC Scribbles 132 - ✨ The Giant Green Caterpillars on My Screen

Most messaging apps have a one-tap voice recording feature. I loathe it. It always appears as those long, bright green bars, sixty seconds a pop. Some people have an insatiable urge to talk; they send one, then another, and yet another.

To listen, I have to tap through them. If I miss-tap, the sequence gets scrambled, and I lose track of where I was. I’m forced to start the whole ordeal over again.

The most terrifying thing about voice messages is the repetition. A single thought can be uttered three times across three different clips with three different inflections. It lacks the crystalline clarity of text—clean, line by line, searchable, where what you need to find or reply to is visible at a glance.

Instead, I’m left with these "Giant Green Caterpillars" squirming across my screen. It’s genuinely exhausting.

Eventually, I noticed that the people in my life generally fall into three categories (not a generalization of humanity, just my personal "Friends List" version):

The First Type: The Typers. These individuals are usually logical and well-read with distinct perspectives. They pause to think before they "speak" and are considerate of how their words land on others.

The Second Type: The Voicers. They are impatient and driven by instinct. It’s not that they lack empathy; they are just somewhat "obtuse" toward their own impact. Often, they are quite terrible at reading the room.

The Third Type: The Hybrids (Voice + Text). These people are incredibly versatile. They can talk to anyone, are outgoing, and possess a talent for moving with the vibe (and a knack for flattery). Curiously, though, they are often the most fastidious and critical deep down.

We always leave traces of our behavior everywhere, simply in different forms.

Some hide within their voices; others retreat between the lines of text. As for me, I relish finding clues in those very cracks observing how someone speaks, where they pause, what they repeat, and what they omit.

That "Aha! So this is who you are" moment is, truly, pure joy.
